Robert E. LOEB

LPI Memphis
President
Entrepreneur

Bob Loeb is a fourth-generation Memphian and President of LPI Memphis. He is the visionary behind the revitalization of Overton Square, the thriving entertainment, dining and shopping district in Midtown Memphis. Giving this treasured landmark a new lease on life earned Bob 2014 Memphian of the Year by Memphis magazine.

After graduating from Southern Methodist University, Bob Loeb went into business with two college buddies opening a bar named London Transport, which they sold for an enormous profit after six months of hard work. Bob subsequently opened another bar by the same name with his brother Lou. The brothers operated that establishment and Bob took real estate jobs during the day. He earned his M.B.A from Southern Methodist University in 1985 and returned to Memphis to join the family business with his father and brother.

In a profile in Memphis Magazine, Loeb describes joining his father’s business, “A lot of our time was spent managing operations that weren’t performing very well. So, we sold those businesses to tenants and found ourselves in real estate management, then in investment and development.” This evolution from a retailer to a real estate investment development and management business has helped make Memphis a better place to live.

LPI Memphis, founded in 1887, is a commercial real estate investment, development, management, and brokerage company focusing on retail, multifamily, office, and mixed-use properties. Its portfolio includes over 100 familiar properties in Memphis. LPI Memphis currently has 25 employees.

Bob chaired the Board of Trustees at Memphis University School and the $26.5 million “For Girls, For Life, For Generations” capital campaign at St. Mary’s Episcopal School. He is a member of Lambda Alpha International, Urban Land Institute and past board member at Youth Villages.

Thoughts on Entrepreneurship:

“‘The majority of new jobs in America come from small business start ups. Entrepreneurship creates new jobs, new products and services, better mousetraps.  It is fun to be captain of your own ship.”
