R. Brad Martin is a true believer in entrepreneurship, “risk taking is fundamental to the advancement of any enterprise.” And the risks he has taken have proven quite successful.
Brad Martin led an investor group that acquired the four-store Proffitt’s Department Store chain in 1984. He became its Chief Executive Officer in 1989 and led the company as its revenues grew from approximately $70 million to $7 billion. The company acquired the premier department store chain in the United States–Saks Fifth Avenue–in 1998, and at that time, adopted the name, Saks Incorporated. Brad retired as Chairman and CEO of Saks Incorporated in 2007.
