“The risk takers of the world are the people who are most responsible for the innovative progress from which we all benefit.” Fred Davis is undoubtedly one of those people who is not afraid to take risks, and whose efforts have taken him a long way, contributing greatly to the Memphis business community. In 1967, Fred opened Fred Davis Insurance Agency, which was one of the first independent, black insurance agencies in the South. Through a strong work ethic and an unmatched sales ability, Fred has grown his company to one that is widely respected. Although he has had many opportunities, he has never moved from his original office space in Orange Mound. His intentions are to show those who see his success that it’s possible to have a vision and make it a reality.
Fred Davis was a charter member of the Memphis City Council and is also involved in numerous other civic and professional interests, including the Brannon-McCulloch Health Center, the Liberty Bowl, the Memphis Park Commission, Young Life, and the Mid-South Minority Business Council.
