THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING ABLE TO HAVE DREAMS, IDEAS AND GOALS COME TO FRUITION, IS THE CORE OF WHAT WE ARE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE BECAUSE OF THE FREEDOMS THAT ARE OURS IN AMERICA.

SMALL BUSINESS DRIVES THE AMERICAN ECONOMY. IT THRIVES AND SURVIVES NO MATTER WHAT MAY BE GOING ON IN THE MAIN ECONOMY.

UNLESS WE PROMOTE ENTREPRENEURSHIP, WE WILL NOT HAVE AN EXCITING BUSINESS ATMOSPHERE IN OUR COUNTRY.

WALKER UHLHORN

The Society of Entrepreneurs
Founder
Current OfficerEntrepreneur

For Walker Uhlhorn, entrepreneurship is what it’s all about, for he is the visionary behind the Society of Entrepreneurs and the reason it has come into being. Mr. Uhlhorn’s definition for an “entrepreneur” is someone who “is not easily deterred and is creative enough to turn problems into opportunities.” Mr. Uhlhorn has been successful in creating a unique group of individuals who all have one thing in common: they were born with the gift of creativity and inner drive, and they all knew what to do with it.

Mr. Uhlhorn has put a lot of thought into the concept of the entrepreneur because, of course, he is one himself. In 1973, he founded Uhlhorn Security Group, providing burglar and fire systems, security guards and safety deposit boxes. Mr. Uhlhorn served as President until he sold the company in 1988 to Honeywell.

His business involvements have included Aqua Dynamics Systems, Inc., Cadence Bank, Chicken Soup for the Soul Magazine, Matrix Alarm Company and several others. His civic involvements have included Church of the Holy Communion, St. Mary’s Episcopal School, Cotton Carnival, Germantown Rotary Club, World Cataract Foundation Naval Academy Alumni Association, Navy League, Memphis Museum Systems, Boys and Girls Club of Memphis, Memphis in May, and the English Speaking Union.
